The Mobile World Congress or MWC, as it is fondly known, is the biggest mobile trade show across the globe today. There are millions of curious eyes anticipating some of the most biggest launches in the world of tech, especially mobile devices. This year at MWC 2019, the event is still ongoing while we write this, it is the season of foldable smartphones. Samsung and Huawei are currently leading the market with the innovation in this space.
Talking with Bloomberg in a TV interview, Steve Wozniak--Apple Co-founder, shared his concerns about the rising wave in hardware tech industry.
“Apple has been a leader for quite a long time in a few areas such as touch ID, facial ID, and easy payment with the phone. They’re not the leader in areas like the folding phone, and that worries me because I really want a folding phone." Wozniak had said.
Samsung’s new Galaxy Fold is expected to be priced at $1,980 and will ship in April. The phone has one 4.6-inch screen on the outside of the device and a 7.3-inch display that unfolds on the inside. Surprisingly, it packs a total of six cameras in the hardware.
On the other hand, Huawei unleashed its own foldable smartphone, the Mate X. Notably, it carries an even more expensive price tag of $2,600. It features an 8-inch display on the outside and when you open it, the inner screen is larger when compared to Galaxy Fold’s main display. Huawei Mate X is 5.4mm thin when unfolded and measures at 11mm thin when folded.
Wozniak goes ahead to add that, “You know, it’s one of those new technologies that does catch my attention.” Additionally he did emphasise on the fact that, “Apple always has surprises” and they are always working on things in the background.”
It seems, however, Apple has already heard Woz’s need and have started working on a foldable clamshell smartphone. A new Apple patent provides new insight into the foldable iPhone which we can expect in 2020.
The grapevine has it that just last week, a new patent from Apple was published in the United States Patent Office database where an iPhone with a flexible display was showcased. This is not a design where the smartphone unfolds into a tablet, like Samsung and Huawei seem to prefer. It is a clamshell smartphone design.
iPhone apps of the future will now be moulded in accordance with this screen type. The demand to hire dedicated iPhone app developers will splurge in the coming future and this seems to be a good news for developers as well as app development companies.
Below is the 3D render of the patent by Let’s Go Digital that was filed by Apple. Apple has chosen an elongated telephone design in an open folded position where you can operate the mobile device with one hand. Another dazzling aspect is that the smartphone can bend in two directions. The device can be folded in, after which you have an almost square telephone at your disposal that you can easily carry in your pocket.

Conclusion
The finish line to this race is far beyond imagination. Tech companies thrive in a constant pressure to be better than their competitors. Ironically, this competition is what keeps these companies alive. This competition is what keeps app development companies up and running. The need to perform better than the others, the need to hire iPhone developers who are at par with their counterparts, the need to be always the best and reach the zenith of human admiration, is what paves the way for innovation and success.
